New Dovetail Collapsible Core
Roehr has expanded
its product line with the addition of the new Dovetail Collapsible Core
(DT Core).
The DT Core offers
the following benefits:
· Can
be removed while the mold is
in the press
· Gradual
release from undercut
· Large,
robust segments
· Compact
height
· Reliable
shut-off with front half of mold
· Customizable
collapse angles
· Shorter
stroke on mold staging
· Deeper
undercuts
· Taller
parts
· Constructed
from high quality materials
including A2 steel.
“With our new
Dovetail Collapsible Core technology, customers are able to design and
build a mold that requires only “Mold Open, Mold Close” to operate,”
explains Dave Helenius, senior applications engineer
at
Roehr. “In most cases there
is no need for special
core pull
circuits or even the common ejector plate sequence. The potential cycle
time reduction is enormous.
“Combine our
Dovetail Collapsible Cores with our new, patent-pending quick lock
system and customers are able to quickly remove the Dovetail Core
assembly from the mold without removing the mold from the machine,” he
continues. “That’s impossible with a rack and gear mold.”

Roehr
Application Partner: Custom Mold
Roehr continues to
hear from mold builders about how their customers have benefitted by
using Collapsible Core technology. This account, provided by Custom
Mold & Design in Minneapolis, MN, provides evidence of several
advantages gained by a customer new to the technology.

a 2-cavity Collapsible Core mold. |
Mark Casey, a
member of the management team at Custom Mold, told us about a customer
that wanted not only to optimize cycle times, but there were concerns
about space issues and press size as well.
“Our customer
requested a two-cavity unscrewing mold to fit into a specified press
size but the part is large enough that there was a concern about fitting
the mold, with rack and gears, into that press size,” explained Casey.
“So, knowing the benefits Collapsible Cores offered, we suggested using
them for this project and the customer was willing to try them.
“The part design
was altered slightly, but the customer liked the simplification of it
and, in the long run, it also resulted in less maintenance issues for
them, not to mention a 20% improvement in cycle times versus an
unscrewing system,” Casey continued. “We were able to provide a lesser
cost tool that runs more efficiently, requiring less maintenance and
less downtime. That’s significant.”
