NPE Puts Spotlight on Roehr’s Cores
NPE was a success for Roehr, exhibiting new products and highlighting its new capabilities to attendees. Roehr showcased the latest addition to its product line: the Dovetail Collapsible Core. The Team provided demonstrations and customers were able to see the benefits of using them up close and personally. Roehr also announced its move to a new, larger facility where it could expand its capabilities with new CNC machinery and reorganize shop workflow and gain efficiencies. With the new facility came the implementation of a new inventory management system as well. Also, Roehr was proud to announce its new Application Partner program, in which strategic alliances have formed with companies that have extensive experience in building and maintaining high cavitation molds utilizing Roehr technology. “Some specialized mold builders are on the front lines in providing creative solutions to their molder/OEM customers,” said Jim Cullison, vice president of Roehr. “From their experience with utilizing this approach to releasing undercuts, Application Partners can assist their customers in transitioning away from complex and expensive gear/rack molds.” Also at NPE, Roehr’s distributors D-M-E and Progressive Components were showing Collapsible Cores and Expandable Cavities. With this range of developments introduced, Roehr is further positioned as a solution for better molding profitability. Glen Casetta at CDM Tool & Manufacturing has built molds incorporating Roehr’s Collapsible Cores and Expandable Cavities for years. When a project came to him involving molding HDPE male threads for fuel containers in four-cavity family molds, he turned to Expandable Cavities due to the space available for such tooling and its simplicity. “It fit the package better,” he says. “It involved less work, was less costly, less complicated and it didn’t require more room than we had to work with. With another type of unscrewing system, we would have had to expand the mold considerably larger, causing our customer to buy a new, larger molding machine. “There is also a bit of a cycle time savings,” he continued, “because expandable cavities open as soon as the mold opens. You don’t have to wait for it to unwind and rewind the core. As soon as the mold opens, the core starts expanding, so as fast as the mold opens and closes, the thread clears. There’s definitely a cycle time advantage in this case.” To find out more about how Roehr’s Ex-Cav’s can benefit your tooling program, visit www.roehrtool.com. |
Roehr Tool Corporation was a pioneer in the development of Collapsible Core technology. The company was founded in 1968 to sell this newly patented technology, providing custo-mers with alternative approa-ches to molding plastic parts with threads. Collapsible Cores (C-Cores) offer these benefits over tradi-tional rack and gear systems:
• Simplified mold designs
