Roehr Tool Corporation, the global leader in Collapsible Core technol-ogy, has expanded its offering of custom Collapsible Cores (C-Cores) to include those as small as 10mm and as large as 200mm in size.

Meeting customer needs for smaller sized Collapsible Cores that are being used in medical applications, for example, Roehr recently created a custom 10mm DT Series C-Core that offers these unique advantages:

• A deeper, full diameter undercut for reliable fit with a mating part

• Simple, two-stage mold action that makes it ideal for clean room production – no hydraulics/lubrication needed

• Faster cycle time with better part quality.

Conversely, Roehr is also capable of assisting customers whose projects present challenges on the larger side, like Schaefer Mold, who was recently asked by its customer to build two new, single cavity molds for a proprietary product that will be molded using polycarbonate. Schaefer’s Design Engineer, Barry Francisco, shared the following information about the benefits of using Roehr’s DT Series Cores.

“This project could not be run unscrewing or jump thread and the robust features of the new DT Cores were a perfect fit,” he said. “The size of the part and complexity of the design was a challenge that only the new DT Core design could handle. Our initial project required a 4.00” dia. DT Core. The second mold was for a challenging larger part that required a 6.00” dia. DT Core to mold a part that is 7.50” in diameter.

“Utilizing the DT Core from Roehr definitely helped us to simplify the mold design for a complex part,” he concluded. “Additionally, the robust segmented DT Cores versus the spring steel core design makes the tool run with less maintenance and fewer rejected parts.”
