Expandable Cavities

Roehr’s Expandable Cavities, Ex-Cavs, were developed to mold parts with external details such as threads, ribs, grooves, barbs and dimples, without the need for conventional side action components such as slides, gibs and locks. This innovative system saves considerable space in the mold allowing for a smaller mold base or increased cavitation.

Every Expandable Cavity is manufactured from high quality, certified tool steel and is heat treated under strict specifications to ensure reliable performance and long life.

Two Styles of Expandable Cavity Operation

"B" Style Operation uses a Striker Insert mounted in the "B" side of the mold and the ejector system to move the Ex-Cav in and out. Gating position allows for conventional runner methods.

"A" Style Operation uses a Striker Insert mounted in the "A" side of the mold and the mold opening sequence to open and close the Ex-Cav. Gating position must be from the top.
